Baron DeKalb Kelley 1850-1933

Baron DeKalb (Cal) Kelley was born in 1850 in Farmerville, Union Parish, Louisiana. He died January 13, 1933 in Concord, Anderson County, Texas and is buried in the Concord Cemetery in Anderson County, Texas.

             He married Virginia Fitzgerald Lauder of the Concord community on March 30, 1871 in Anderson County, Texas. They were married by Rev. William Lunsford, a  cousin of Cal Kelley’s. Virginia was born on December 1, 1857 in Anderson County, Texas and died January 24, 1900 in Anderson County, Texas. She is buried  next to her husband in the Concord Cemetery in Anderson County, Texas.

              Virginia was the daughter of Thomas Lauder and Parthenney Fitzgerald and the granddaughter of William “Billy Cupe” Fitzgerald and Elizabeth “Betsey” Fields.

               Cal and his wife Virginia farmed in the Bois D’Arc community about 16 miles north of Palestine. He raised cattle under the “Sheltered K” brand and was considered the “Bee King” of the area, producing honey which he sold in Athens and Palestine.

  1. Minita Kelley-born August 18, 1872 in the Bois D’Arc community in Anderson County, Texas. She died October 1882 in Anderson County, Texas and is buried in the Concord Cemetery in Anderson County, Texas.
  • Thomas Enoch Kelley—born August 13, 1874 in the  Bois D’Arc Community in Anderson County, Texas. He died on March 3, 1933 in Concord, Anderson County, Texas. He is buried in the Concord Cemetery in Anderson County, Texas.
  • Iris Bell Kelley—born February 14, 1876 in the Bois D’Arc community in Anderson County, Texas. She died November 10, 1953. She married John Will Hyette and they are both buried in the Concord Cemetery in Anderson County, Texas.
  • Parthenney Kelley—born October, 1878 in the Bois D’Arc community in  Anderson County, Texas. She died October 12, 1879 in Anderson County and is buried in the Concord Cemetery in Anderson County, Texas.
  • Debbie Gertrude Kelley—born February 8, 1880 in the Bois D’Arc community in Anderson County, Texas. She married Russell Johnson. She died in 1933 in Coleman County, Texas and is buried in Coleman County, Texas.
  • John Walter Kelley—born in 1883 in the Bois D’Arc community in Anderson County, Texas. He died on December 20, 1948 in Anderson County, Texas and is buried in the Palestine City Cemetery, New Addition in Palestine, Anderson County, Texas.
  • Jettie Kelley—born January 22, 1886 in the Bois D’Arc community in Anderson County, Texas. She died September 1887 in Anderson County, Texas  and is buried in the Concord Cemetery in Anderson County,Texas.
  • Jewel Alma Kelley—born October 29, 1889 in the Bois D’Arc community in Anderson County, Texas. She married William G. Fitzgerald and Roy Bishop. She died November 18, 1956 in Anderson County, Texas. She is buried in the Evergreen Cemetery in Houston, Texas.
  • Bela Kelley—born February 1, 1893 in the Bois D’Arc community in Anderson County, Texas. She married Jasper Fitzgerald. She died November 11, 1919 in Anderson County, Texas.  She is buried at the Rock Church Cemetery in the Blackfoot Community in Anderson County, Texas.

                   After the death of his first wife, Virginia Lauder in 1900, Cal married Mollie A. Shields of  Anderson County, Texas. They were married March 19, 1905 in Anderson County, Texas by the Rev. William Lunsford, a cousin of Cal Kelley’s.  Mollie was born July 28, 1870 in Anderson County, Texas and died March 5, 1959 in Palestine, Texas. She is buried in the Land Of Memories Cemetery in Anderson County, Texas.

Anderson County, Texas. He died June 2, 1976 in Palestine, Texas and is buried in the Land Of Memories Cemetery  in Anderson County, Texas.

  • Otis Kelly—born November 5, 1908 in the Bois D’Arc community in

Anderson County, Texas. He died February 6, 1956 in Palestine, Texas. He is buried in the Land Of Memories Cemetery in Anderson County, Texas.

  • Ira Kelly—born March 18,1912 in the Bois D’Arc community in Anderson County, Texas. He died August 10, 1979 in Anderson County, Texas. He is buried at the Liberty Cemetery in Bradford, Texas in Anderson County, Texas.
